KNIGHTS TOURNAMENT JOUSTING 19TH CENTURY WOOD CARVING BAS RELIEF

A striking carved wood bas relief of a scene showing medieval knights jousting in a tournament. The beautifully carved 41 x 18" single piece of pine wood is beautifully carved and the knights, their steeds and the soldiers show wonderful 3 dimension relief. I believe this was carved in Europe, possibly mid 19th century during the upsurge of interest in knight errant generated by the novels of Sir Walter Scott. The overall size approx 41 x 18 x 3.5 inches. The figures and background retain much of their original paint. The figures have cracks and a few are are missing their feet or lower limbs. The bas relief has a lengthwise crack recently repaired with steel straps on the reverse. Shipping Wt 28 pounds, UPS Shipping Only.
